DAILY TIMELINE
8.30am-9am | Arrive at Office and Clock in 🕣🏢
We begin our day by settling into the office, enjoying a quick breakfast to energize ourselves, and preparing for the morning activities.
9am-10am | Group Work – “Let’s Talk About Life” [Medical Social Work department]
We assisted the MSW team in their group work programme, ‘Let’s Talk About Life’, which is a strength-based therapy where residents share their life stories and reflect strengths they have built over the years. We helped prepare the space, guided conversations, and encouraged residents to express themselves. These sessions allow residents to feel heard, recognise their strengths, and connect meaningfully with others.
10am-11am | Physiotherapy (PT) session 💪 [Therapy department]
We work closely with the therapy team, supporting their daily physiotherapy (PT) sessions. Throughout our internship, we had the opportunity to observe, learn, and eventually assist residents independently with exercises such as ambulation, strength training, sitting balance, and more!
11.30am-12pm | Lunch time Feeding 🍽️ [Nursing department]
Beyond therapy sessions, we also support the nursing team in the wards during mealtimes. We help residents eat safely and comfortably, assist with meal preparation (portioning fruits, scooping soup, adding thickener), and ensure meals are served on time. It is always heartwarming to see residents enjoying their food!
12pm-1pm | Our lunch time 😋
A short break for us to recharge after feeding the residents! We usually eat in the nursing home where staff meals are provided, though we occasionally head out for a treat.
1pm-2.45pm | Kek Ai Diam duties 🛒 + restocking of items / Kopitiam session ☕
As we have both activities going on at the same time (Kek Ai Diam and Kopitiam), one of us would help out at Kek Ai while the other would help out for the kopitiam session.
We assist at Kek Ai Diam by helping residents select daily essentials/ food items and ensuring the shelves are neatly restocked after each session. This routine task becomes meaningful as we interact with residents, learn their preferences, and make small conversations that brighten their afternoon.
At the same time, we also support the Kopitiam session, serving drinks, chatting with residents, and creating a relaxed, café-like atmosphere where they can bond and reminisce.
3pm-4pm | Music Therapy 🎵 / Karaoke session! 🎤[Therapy department]
One of the highlights of our day! We encourage residents to clap, sing, or play instruments. Watching them smile, tap their feet, or sing along to familiar tunes is always heartwarming. These sessions highlight how powerful and therapeutic music can be!
4.30pm-5pm | Dinner time Feeding 🍽️ [Nursing department]
Before dinner, we support food preparation by portioning meals, scooping soup, and ensuring everything is ready to be served. During mealtimes, we feed residents and check that they are comfortable and safe. This is a quiet but meaningful moment where we can provide patient, one-to-one care. Simple gestures like adjusting their seating or encouraging them gently make a big difference in ensuring mealtimes are safe, smooth, and dignified!
5pm-5.30pm | Reflection of the day & Clock OUT!
At the end of the day, we whip out our best RP-trained skill: reflection. We look back on what we learned, who we engaged with, and how we can improve, because if RP taught us anything, it’s reflection! This helps us grow both personally and professionally. It also reminds us of the purpose behind the work, caring with empathy, patience, and understanding.
5.30pm-8pm | After-Office-Hours Fun!
It happens to be the Christmas season! We were invited to one of the wards to perform, and we gladly did! Here’s our little band, formed by both our team and the nurses!
